There is a reason for all of our actions, and sometimes we do not know the underlying thing that is driving or paralyzing us, but many times… it is our fears. And in addition to that, it may be fears we are not aware of.

In Nehemiah Chapter 2, we learn how to not let our fears make our decisions, but we also see what obedience looks like when fear is present.

By the end of this episode, we want you to have a grasp on your underlying fears, but more importantly, we want you to see what it looks like to say “yes” to God in the midst of them.

This is a scriptural study where we will go verse by verse in Chapter 2 of Nehemiah so that you can see how God’s word can unfold in your life and your specific circumstance.

What I personally found really convicting as I was reading in this chapter was this specific verse:

“I was overwhelmed with fear, and replied to the king.”

Yea.. I know weird right.. It is one of those in between verses that really do not stand out to you while you are reading.

But the Lord redirected me and this verse became a focal point while I was reading. In that moment, I truly had no idea what the Lord was saying, so that’s when I have to tell him he is going to have to spell it out for me, because it’s not clicking.

Then that’s when I heard, “look at the word after “fear",” what is it?

The word after fear… is “and.”

Still wasn’t getting it…

So I sat. read it a couple more times.. Then it hit me. Even though Nehemiah was overwhelmed with fear, he still proceeded forward. It doesn’t say that Nehemiah was overwhelmed with fear… so he walked away, changed the subject, kept quiet, or left the room.

No.. it says Nehemiah was overwhelmed with fear AND STILL responded in obedience.

Then the Lord continued.. “I see and know your fears daughter, but I have to be on the other side of that comma, just as Nehemiah placed me. He was overwhelmed with fear, AND proceeded to answer the king. There are responses in your life that you have replaced me with your fears. This needs to be corrected.”

So I encourage you with this revelation today, sister. After this simple response to the king, Nehemiah restored a lot of brokenness and destruction that impacted the times of Jesus’ ministry years later. Even in the midst of his fear, he responded with his faith in God rather than with his fear in the king’s response.

In the different areas of your life, are you responding to your fears, or are you moving forward in your faith?
