Our culture is busy, therefore we “need” food and health to be convenient to fit our busy job schedules, rather than choose to make our health a priority over long working hours.

One thing that brings frustration in the health and fitness industry is that even though experts in the field are not naive to the ingredients in certain foods, they still serve convenience culture for the client, rather than help people redefine convenience and health as a whole. Many experts will give them quick, low calorie, and high protein processed snacks that are efficient for their time, but poisoning to their bodies.

As a health and nutrition coach, I value taking time with clients to help them gain a new perspective on their heath with redefined mindsets around convenience.

Here are some quick actions to consider as you begin your journey of not letting convenience availability control your decisions around your health.

Consume less shelf foods:

Consuming foods with lengthy shelf lives might seem convenient, but it often means compromising on freshness and nutritional value, and trading it in for preservatives, Opt for whole, fresh ingredients for a vibrant, nourished body as much as you can.. with a little balance :)

Become More Intentionally Active:

In a world dominated by screens both at work and at home, it's easy to neglect the body's need for movement. Adding in at least 30 minutes of intentional movement a day could be such a benefit for you.

Nutrition vs Convenience:

When convenience trumps nutrition, our bodies pay the price. Making time to invite nourishing foods over quick fixes fuels our well-being and ensures vitality in the long run. If you think you do not have time to incorporate whole foods in your daily intake, it may be best for you to introduce boundaries in your schedule vs find conveniences to support your potential lack of them.

Quality Matters:
The quality of our food has taken a hit. It's time to reassess our choices, prioritize quality over quantity, and savor the rich nutrients that high-quality foods offer, and whole foods are a great place to start! Look up local farms near you, and continue to educate yourself on marketing terms in the grocery!

Hopefully these 4 actions steps give you some sustainable ways to exit convenience culture and set realistic goals around your time that are also conducive to your health. We live in a microwave culture that is not meant to do us a favor, but to fit the agenda of a consumerism distracted world.
